Dinosaur, Insect, Superhero, Animal, Princess

The word is favorite and the nerds give their own answers to five “What’s your favorite…?” questions which it’s essential for every pediatrician to have ready answers for: Dinosaur, Insect, Superhero, Animal, and Princess. (Unsurprisingly, they spend quite a bit of time on a couple of those.) Moving on to other topics, they discuss Keith’s next video appearances as well as scrambled eggs. Media topics include Fargo, The Peripheral, Scott Pilgrim, For All Mankind, and Silo. After dropping the spoiler curtain, they discuss a couple of videogames, namely Wayfinder (which Keith worked on) and Stray (in which you are a cat).

This week the word is unreliable. They discuss unreliable narrators in popular media, trying not to get to spoilery until the last part of the show. Andy talks about his upcoming trip to Russia, and Keith tells the story of how he came to be in possession of an autographed rubber arm. Other topics include Galactus action figures, Keith’s new Eberron books, Math Fluxx 2.0, Tom Lehrer’s New Math song, and what Keith wants to do next with Gloom. Episode 202: The Adventure Place

This week the word is Adventure. The nerds talk about the definition of adventure and early computer games by that name. Keith talks about his progress on his Adventure Zone game, and Andy talks about converting the cardframes for older versions of Fluxx to the newer standard. A lengthy (and spoilery) discussion of Ken Grimwood’s book Replay then follows. Other topics include upcoming media, weird videos on the internet, and games by fast food restaurants. Episode 196: Lab Coats and Watermelons

This week the word is Gen Con, which the nerds spend a lot of time discussing. But first Keith talks about being in Maine, and his distaste for lobster. They talk about the year 2020, seeing multiple people wearing a lab coat and carrying a watermelon, and zany stunts they used to do at sci-fi conventions before they each started a game company. Keith talks about his new project with the Adventure Zone, then they speculate more about the upcoming Picard series. Andy asks Keith to compare the gore factors on Stranger Things vs. The Boys, since Andy is very adverse to graphic depictions. Then Keith talks about the start of Season 3 of Legion, and Andy mentions a theory about Star Wars Episode 9 that’s been going around. After lowering the spoiler curtain, the discuss season 3 of Stranger Things.

Episode 194: Superman vs. Spiderman

This week the word is secret-identity. The nerds spend a lot of time discussing superhero secret identities in particular. Other topics include the technical reasons for Superman’s powers, the definition of the birthday season, Jumanji, August Fool’s Day, and the new Star Wars area at Disneyland. Then they drop the spoiler curtain to discuss Spiderman: Far From Home at length.

Episode 193: The Baboon Reactor

This week the word is crud, since Keith still has the dreaded con crud. Keith talks about some of the things he noticed at the American Library Association conference. Andy talks about how much he enjoyed the movie Yesterday, and Keith discusses the new series called The Rook. Andy also talks about Brooklyn Nine Nine, which he’s now all caught up on, and Keith talks about seeing a Lonely Island concert. Other topics include Jerry Seinfeld’s original appearance on SNL, summer movies they haven’t seen yet, their favorite units of US currency, and what animal they would choose to be turned into (other than a lobster). Lastly, Andy talks about all the new games Looney Labs will be releasing in August.

This week the word is Word. The nerds talk about a few of their favorite words, their favorite word games, and their favorite other uses for word-game tiles. Andy talks about going to New York City for Book Expo & Con and notes the differences between the book industry with the game industry. He also describes walking on the High Line and climbing The Vessel. Keith talks about work he can’t talk about. Keith talks about having seen “Chernobyl” and Andy talks about Jimmy Carter’s visit to Three Mile Island. This week the word is Reset. The nerds discuss various times the reset button has been pressed, and how it differs from the reboot. Andy tells Keith about the fun he had at PaulCon. Keith talks about his latest GoT bingo cards, and shares a few non-spoilery thoughts about Us. Then they lower the spoiler curtain and spend a lot of time discussing Star Trek Discovery’s season 2 finale, the penultimate episode of season 2 of the Orville, and the implications for season 3 of both shows. Lastly they talk about the 2nd and 3rd episodes of the new Twilight Zone.

This week the word is Scottish, since Keith was just in Scotland. He talks about some of his travel experiences, including the Student Nationals, his first stay in a bonafide flea-bag motel, and getting to meet the Minister of Cats of Scotland. This week the word is Cruisin’, since Keith has just returned from the JoCo Cruise and has many stories to tell. Of particular note is the enormous D&D game he ran, with 70 DMs and over 400 players. He also reports on how the concert by TMBG was affected by a huge storm, and a new James Ernest card game he learned on the cruise. Andy talks about a movie he’s been hearing about called The Wandering Earth and one he just saw, called Apollo 11.
