Episode 101: Ready Player 101

First the guys talk about cats. Then they talk about playing video games, with Keith rambling on about the Mass Effect series. Then they talk about cats some more. Next, they discuss time travel shows, specifically the just-canceled Time After Time, Making History, and episode 3 of Dimension 404. Next, they talk about cats again. After that, they get into a lengthy, spoiler-filled discussion of the book, Ready Player One, followed by a spoilery discussion of the most recent episode of the Americans. Lastly, they talk about racism in fantasy worlds, with one more mention of cats.

Episode 100: Ducks Don’t Read

The guys note that this is their 100th show and give their answers to a common question: what are some of your all-time favorite games that you did not design? As part of this discussion, Keith mentions an interesting new poker variant, called Hollywood Squares. Regarding work, Andy talks about Drinking Fluxx, and the new rules that make it both awesome and dangerous, and talks about finally finishing the new edition of Nanofictionary, one change to which will be a new rule for who goes first, which they discuss. When they get to media, they have a long, spoiler-filled discussion about the season 1 finale to Legion. Other topics include the Americans, The Good Place, Rick & Morty, and the 8th episode of the fan series, Star Trek Continues.

Episode 99: Time Travelers Are The new Vampires

After a short discussion of sci-fi conventions both recent and long ago, Keith and Andy spend most of the episode discussing media. First, Keith points out just how many time travel shows are currently on the air, comparing this time travel overload to the overuse of vampires in recent media. Then they spend a lot of time discussing the new series Time After Time, followed by an in-depth discussion of Legion. Spoilers abound throughout most of this episode!

Episode 92: Hail Trackanon!

First, Keith talks about being back in his old home town of Ithaca NY, and the travel nightmare he went through to get there. They discuss quotes they’ve been quoting slightly incorrectly. Andy talks about the newest Fluxx design he just cranked out a prototype for, with the help of his friend Dr. Leila: Anatomy Fluxx. Next they discuss travel plans and upcoming events, including the JoCo Cruise. Turning to media, topics include The OA, the Trackanon episode of Man Seeking Woman, Timeless, This Is Us, and lastly, a very spoilery discussion about the season finale of The Good Place.

Episode 91: Let’s Build that Reactor!

First, Keith talks about snow in Portland. Then the guys discuss a bit from Robot Chicken which they have found highly quotable. They discuss the projects they’re each working on for a bit, then they get into media, discussing Travelers, the OA, Continuum, Boardwalk Empire, Manchester by the Sea, Hidden Figures, This Is Us, Journeyman, and the Magicians. Then Keith talks about a role-playing game he’s currently in, and Andy talks about a big new board game for 8 players called Captain Sonar. Lastly they go back to media for a somewhat-spoilery discussion of The Good Place.

Episode 88: Dungeons & Tunnels

First Andy & Keith talk about how they spent their holidays. Then they yammer about watching TV, and videos on the internet, and watching shows via streaming. They discuss an imaginary show called “Designated Survivor Survivor”. Then they get into a deep conversation about RPGs, the different player styles they attract, and a home-brew system Andy & Keith invented long ago called Dungeons & Tunnels. Then they talk about how hyperspace makes chase scenes in space nonsensical. Lastly, they get into a spoiler-laden discussion about Designated Survivor.

Episode 87: Rogue One Roundup

First Keith and Andy discuss holiday preparations and some lesser known holiday traditions. They also talk a little about the ups and downs of 2016, including the many notable deaths. [And this was recorded before they heard about Carrie Fisher.] But mostly the guys just talk about media: first they discuss a couple of TV shows including Designated Survivor and Timeless, then Keith gives his views on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Finally, they discuss Star Wars: Rogue One at length, with side topics including Episode 7 and the Star Wars Holiday Special. Watch out for spoilers after they bring down the Spoiler Curtain.

Andy & Keith spend most of this episode talking about media, although they try to hold back on the spoilers until near the end. Subjects they go deep on include the series Westworld and the films Arrival and Dr. Strange. Keith talks about an RPG scenario he’s about to run, and Andy talks about foreign language editions of Just Desserts, in which Baked Alaska becomes Norwegian Omelette. They also talk about a couple of tabletop games they recently played, Mystic Vale and The Game.

Episode 84: I Married a Hufflepuff

Keith talks about a secret computer game project he’s working on, and reflects at length on similarities between MMO game design and the world building of shows like Battlestar Galactica, The 100, Enterprise, Lost, and in particular, Westworld. Then they talk at great length about Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and also The Magicians and The Eagle Huntress. Lastly they talk more about Westworld, this time with spoilers aplenty.

Episode 82: They [actually don’t] Have a Plan

Andy talks about the reviews Pyramid Arcade is starting to get, and laments minor errors that have emerged on one of the gameboards inside. But mostly the guys just discuss media, in particular, a couple of long discussions about Westworld. Other topics include a couple of series from the BBC (Space Race and Black Mirror) and a new Beatles album from an alternate dimension, called Everyday Chemistry.
